- Iran War Escalation: Strikes on the South Pars gas field sent oil prices surging. When oil spikes, risk assets bleed. Crypto got hit particularly hard due to the leveraged positions stacked up over the past few months.
- Fed Stays Hawkish: Powell held rates at 3.5-3.75% on March 18 and made it clear inflation isn’t cooperating. No rate cuts on the horizon means the liquidity tailwind that pumped crypto through 2025 is gone.
- Whale Dump: On March 19, two long-term Bitcoin holders sold 1,650 BTC ($117 million). That’s the kind of selling that breaks trend lines and spooks algorithmic traders.
Bitcoin dropped from ~$76,000 to $68,000 in days. Ethereum sliding toward $2,000 again. The whole market is re-testing its 2025 lows.
